Company announcement
‘The company has issued a revision to the earlier announcement’.
On March 17, 2023, this press release was updated to include states where Aldi Simply Nature’s Frozen Organic Strawberries are sold.
Scenic Fruit Company of Gresham, Oregon Costco, Aldi, KeHE, Vital Choice Seafood, PCC are recalling frozen organic strawberries sold at Community Markets and frozen organic tropical blend sold at Trader Joe’s due to the hepatitis A outbreak.
Hepatitis A is an infectious liver disease caused by exposure to the hepatitis A virus through food. It can range from a mild illness lasting a few weeks to a severe illness lasting months. In rare cases, especially in consumers who have a pre-existing serious illness or who have a weakened immune system, hepatitis A infection can progress to liver failure.
Illness occurs 15 to 50 days after exposure and includes fatigue, abdominal pain, jaundice, abnormal liver tests, dark urine, and pale stools. Hepatitis A vaccine can prevent illness if given within two weeks of exposure to contaminated food. Anyone who has consumed the affected product should consult a health care professional or local health department to determine if a vaccination is appropriate, and consumers with symptoms of hepatitis A should contact their health care professional or local health department immediately.
